Setting. Old, rundown, messy house set in in the mountains. It is almost looking like its going to collapse on itself. And there lives a Lonely 89 year old man, headed to his deathbed.((The old man is heading to bed at night, with all lights off but a candle.))
<tap, tap, tap> I hear the Butterflies hitting the outside of my window.
<tap, tap, tap> I cast forth my shadow to go open the black curtains.
<tap, tap, tap> Now that I see them smashing their heads against glass,
I head over and open it.
I set down the candle I was carrying with me on the window sill.
((Complete silence as they flutter around me.))
I watched them fly circles around me and set out my hand for one to land on it.
After a few seconds, one slowly decends down, and lands.
It was the best moment of my life,
-so beautiful and colorful.
I headed down to sit on the floor, as I watched it rest on my hand.
It was my life flashing right in front of me.
A full 89 years, brought to me by this wonderful butterfly.
When the flashbacks ended.. so did the butterfly.
It caught on fire, it was not set a flame from the candle. I wiped my tears and tried to set out the scorching hot flames, but the more I tried the bigger and brighter the fire got. All I could do was watch, until ashes.
The draft from the window blew the remains from my hand, and when I looked up I saw all the other butterflies flying away. I looked back down at my bare hand and slowly closed it into a fist.
I grew angry.
Then I stood up, and slammed the window closed. I called my shadow to close the now red curtains and return to me. Now I continue towards my bed to rest with my newly lit candle.
